“Your word is your bond” is a sentiment Derek Janney takes to heart with clients and his workers.

The CEO of Orlando-based roofing contractor Janney Construction Services LLC, also known as Janney Roofing,
wants to transform the roofing industry by setting a higher standard of excellence through the firm’s core values: generosity, honesty, quality and integrity. Janney, who started with the company 15 years ago, teaches his staff to deeply value clients and recruited resources to help a local children’s home — saying he wants to “change the world, one roof at a time.”

Janney has grown the company’s commercial portfolio to include new residential developments, hotels and apartment complexes. Under his leadership, the firm has grown from a small force of five people to an army of diversified team members. Janney views each new hire as a part of the company’s lifeline and carefully takes time to develop each person according to their natural abilities and also challenges them towards personal and professional growth.

The company was voted the No. 1 roofer in 2018 by Orlando Weekly, and currently is the highest-rated roofer in Central Florida. In an industry marred with price gouging and doing “just enough” to get the job done, Janney said he refuses to settle for anything less than his best to serve those that entrust their homes and businesses to his work. The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and was recognized by the independently reviewed National Best of the Best in 2018 and 2019 for outstanding customer service. Janney Construction also is the “official roofer” for the Orlando City Soccer Club Lions and the Orlando Pride professional soccer teams.

Beyond the workplace, Janney has dedicated his time to several global missions and was an integral part of the funding and opening the J. Derek Janney School for Entrepreneurial Studies in Nairobi, Kenya — something he considers one of his greatest accomplishments in the last year. The school will empower a new generation of Kenyan entrepreneurs by giving the students access to resources and business professionals to help their ideas have a chance to be seen and nurtured.

Janney was chosen as a winner in Orlando Business Journal’s 2019 40 Under 40 Awards.
